Did you know that dolphins and whales produce 50% of the world's oxygen? Yep, that's right. We NEED these beautiful creatures! So let's work together to help protect them.
Why am I so interested in dolphin and whale conservation you ask?
Cetaceans hold a very special place in my heart as I was part of a dolphin and whale
research and conservation project in Italy for 3 consecutive summers. The final year I was even invited back to work as a researcher myself! I lived on a boat 4 weeks at a time off the coast of an Italian island called Ischia (past Capri off the coast of Naples). I was lucky enough to witness the beauty of these animals in their natural habitat first hand and it is terrifying to think that it is human activity that
is forcing them to decrease in number. Ps. This picture was taken about 5 years ago
Who is WDC?
We are fundraising money for WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation) who are doing incredible things! Read about some of their achievements here. Let's give you a quick breakdown of their 4 main goals and what their mission is all about.
The aim of this charity Whale And Dolphin Conservation is to:
1) End captivity and stop the exploitation of these animals in shows.
2) To stop whale hunting and reducing the want for whale meat.
3) To provide untouched and safe seas for the animals to live freely (this includes reducing plastic, pollution, Marine Protected Areas etc.)
4) Reduce deaths by working with governments to toughen laws and develop safer fishing methods.
What am I doing to deserve your donation?
Not only are we spreading the word and education our audience about the importance of these sea mammals but have challenged ourselves to walk 50,000 steps on July 10th. We are currently 'training' for this little marathon and our 30,000 steps went smoothly so wish us luck!
We would be so happy if you shared this story, link and even donated to this worthy cause :)
Anything you can contribute towards helping me achieve my target will be massively appreciated.
Thank you from me, WDC and the dolphins and whales to everyone who spreads the word and/or donates!
